Getting Past Being Intimidated About College

We all have dreams of what our lives will look like outside of high school.

For some, the vision is bright and the steps to get there are clear—from taking the right classes in high school to getting good grades to finding the colleges that will help them achieve their major and career goals.

For most students, however, preparing for college may not be so clear. They may feel uncertain about how it all works, and it all may be very intimidating.

Here is some good and very important news for you no matter what age you are, your name, where you live, where you were born, what high school you’re attending, whether or not your parents went to school, whatever your primary language is, no matter how much money you do or don’t have or what you have or haven’t accomplished: you can go to college!

Every single person has a different way of getting there. Just as no two people are the same, no journey to college is the same.

But there is a place in a college classroom for everyone.

For some, it may mean going directly to a 4 year college — whether it’s near home or far away. For others, it may mean earning a degree from a community college or starting there r and transferring to a four-year school.

Some students need to work full-time and attend school part-time. For others, it may be the opposite;they may attend school full-time and work part-time.

However you do it and whatever your needs are, the first step is getting past the intimidation  and building confidence to realize your dreams of attending college and eventually having a well-paying career.

Go after it by finding people that you trust who will listen and answer your questions. That can be teachers, school counselors, friends, and family members who have knowledge about college. Go online and do searches about different types of schools and careers.

Taking those first steps can be the most challenging, but those first steps get you started on your path toward a bright future!
